WHAT I'VE LEARNED MAKING WANADU
I’m not a dev, I’ve never been, although in my early days I did layout coding, pure HTML & CSS, more or less in the times of Macromedia Fireworks. About that time, there was this thing where layout coders started learning JavaScript. I was pretty stubborn, layout coders do not write code I said. I swallowed my words and my pride.
I always had a splinter in my foot, even after all those years.
With the rise of AI I saw the possibility to remove that splinter. I wasn’t going to let this opportunity go. The first idea that came to my mind was the one to give life to, that is how Wanadu was born, an event scraper that I built from scratch, only using AI.
The process has been fun, exciting and sometimes frustrating. For example when Claude erased absolutely everything, I hadn’t made any commit, let alone a push. I know what Git is, but I wasn’t using it that often. Even though I had to start over, it was a lesson learned.
Not only did I learn how to write better prompts, I discovered tools I’d never heard of. Like Tavily, that allows Agents to browse websites that block bots. Or Apify, that helped me scrape Instagram. Or that I could use Vercel’s free tier. I learned about those tools and more because of my own curiosity, I asked ChatGPT or Claude, and googled a lot (yes, I still use Google).
Wanadu is not even finished, I have many ideas to implement and things to improve. But as my first real project, I proved that you can bring your ideas and concepts to life from zero, and it is 100% accessible and easier than ever.
